Services for adults. Your Careers Adviser serves the whole of West Yorkshire including Leeds, Huddersfield, Bradford and Wakefield.
Career Guidance refers to services and activities intended to assist individuals of any age and at any point throughout their lives, to make educational, training and occupational choices and to manage their careers. Guidance is often a once off interaction which can take about 45 minutes to an hour. At the end of the session you will receive a Career Action Plan outlining what has been discussed and your next steps.
Career Coaching helps individuals discover what they really want to do with their lives and then develop a strategy to achieve it. This is a longer process than Careers Guidance and will involve more than one session. Often it is the follow up and continuing exploration to the careers guidance discussion with support to implement the Action Plan.
Career Coaching can explore job change brought about through redundancy or a change of lifestyle.
Interview Preparation – if you have been employed in the same job for a number of years you may need some interview tips and practice before going for a new job.
Additional Service to Teachers looking to change careers – having worked in schools for many year I understand the skills teachers have which can be transferred to many other careers. So if you are ready for a change from teaching do contact for an informal chat.
When choosing a Careers Adviser do ask:
Are they a fully qualified Careers Adviser (qualified to level 6 / university qualification equal to the teaching qualification PGCE)*
What experience have they? Have they worked with adults – employed/unemployed/redundant? Have they worked with graduates? Have they worked with young people?

*there are some people who have a level 4 qualifications in information, advice and guidance which is not a specialist careers qualification.
